This is a 2" pipe coupler. It fits (with a little filing) perfectly into the TT for pulling the pucks out of and into the TT. 4 large fender washers against one end keeps the threaded rod from going through.

The cap is used when starting the puck in the TT. You can hit it with a small sledge hammer without any chance of damaging anything. ;^)
